Claudio Ranieri, the former Leicester City manager and current Inter Milan coach, has spoken out about the importance of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's shooting conversion rate.
In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, Ranieri said that Donnarumma needs to improve his shooting accuracy if he wants to help Inter Milan achieve success in Serie A this season.
"Every goalkeeper should be able to score goals," Ranieri said. "Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but he needs to improve his shooting accuracy."
Ranieri added that Donnarumma's poor shooting record has been a major factor in Inter Milan's struggles so far this season.
"We have seen how much pressure Donnarumma puts on himself when he misses shots," Ranieri said. "He is always trying to make up for it by playing well defensively,Football Grandstand but we need him to take more shots and score more goals."
Inter Milan has struggled to find their scoring touch this season, with only four goals scored in their first eight games. The team has relied heavily on Donnarumma's saves, but Ranieri believes that they need to start taking more shots from distance.
"The goalkeeper is the backbone of any team," Ranieri said. "But if he can't score goals, then he becomes a liability. Donnarumma needs to step up and start converting his chances into goals."
With Donnarumma under pressure to improve, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the coming weeks and months. If he can continue to perform at the level required, he could go on to become one of the greatest keepers in the world.
